The reasons for silence are unknown: the person may be busy, may not be using the service or may not want to continue. A read status does not explain motivation. If the conversation was already mutual, one calm follow-up can be appropriate. Do not continue contact after a clear refusal. Do not look for the person through other channels to get around a lack of reply or a contact restriction.
- Consider whether your message demanded an immediate answer.
- If needed, send one unobtrusive follow-up.
- If silence continues, stop and return to your own plans.
